FAQS

WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO STARTING THERAPY?

You will need to see your GP to get a referral before the first appointment if you plan to claim rebates via Medicare. If you are seeing a paediatrician or psychiatrist, a letter of referral from them is all you need. You can email or call to schedule a first appointment prior to obtaining the referral if you wish. After booking an appointment, you will be sent an email to collect intake information including your referral to save time during your first appointment. Your first 1-2 appointments will be an opportunity to assess your needs and work together to establish a plan to help you move forward.

HOW LONG IS EACH THERAPY SESSION?

Sessions are 50 minutes in length unless otherwise discussed in advanced.

90 minute sessions can be arranged where additional time is required (e.g., a family session) and can be discussed in advance.

With your permission, yes. Working with your supports and treating systems is a normal part of Sarah's work to ensure best outcomes for you.  What that involves is different depending on your circumstances and can be discussed in session.

I HAVE TRIED THERAPY BEFORE AND IT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL, WILL YOU BE ABLE TO HELP?

I HAVE OTHER TREATING HEALTH PROFESSIONALS INVOLVED IN THE TREATMENT OF MY MENTAL HEALTH. WILL YOU COLLABORATE WITH THEM?

Part of the assessment process is developing an understanding of what treatment approaches have and haven't been helpful for you in the past so treatment can be tailored for your needs and strengths. Sarah is trained in a number of different therapeutic approaches which can be drawn on to try to help you. This is a collaborative process and will be discussed with you before commencing treatment.  Sarah is used to working with people who feel stuck, who's needs are complex, or who are ambivalent about change at times. She will work with you to try to move through this where possible or make additional referral recommendations if  needed.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BREEZE PSYCHOLOGY?

Breeze is a paperless clinic! All paperwork, forms, and handouts are provided electronically to save unnecessary waste. This is easier for you too with info at your fingertips.

This is really variable and depends on what the difficulty is, how long it has been an issue, how you respond to treatment, your goals and many other factors.

This can be discussed with Sarah in the assessment as you work out your goals and establish a plan to move forward.

FEES AND REBATES

Fees

This is variable depending on what service you require and we are happy to discuss this with you before you schedule an appointment.

Breeze Psychology is a private billing clinic and we do not bulk bill. Accounts need to be settled on the day of the appointments via credit or debit card.  Medicare rebates can be processed on your behalf.

Rebates

There are different rebates you may be eligible to use, and this is something to discuss with your GP.

The Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) rebates are the most commonly used. They currently allow rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

The Eating Disorder Management Plan (EDMP) is available for eligible clients with eating disorders and provide up to 40 rebated sessions per 12 month period (and 20 with a dietician).

If you have a condition that has persisted longer than 6 months and requires more complex care from multiple care providers (e.g., GP, psychologist, psychiatrist) you may also be eligible for a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) which provides access to up to 5 Medicare rebated sessions. Sessions are rebated by Medicare at a lower rate than the MHCP and EDMP.

Private Health Insurance

Most private health insurers offer some coverage for Clinical Psychology but the amount of cover varies across providers and policies.  You may like to talk to your provider to determine if you are covered and the extent of any rebates.
